Man City won the FA Cup by defeating Man Utd 2-1.
After defeating Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final on Saturday, Ilkay Gundogan scored twice to put Manchester City one victory away from a historic treble. At Wembley, Pep Guardiola’s team won the domestic double. Should they defeat Inter Milan on June 10 to win the Champions League for the first time, they will become just the second team—after United in 1998–1999—to win the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League in the same season.

When Victor Lindelof’s headed clearing set up perfectly for Gundogan to volley home a magnificent goal after just 12 seconds, the majority of the 83,000 spectators were still finding their seats from the pre-match festivities. The Premier League champions’ performance seemed to be set by that. A little while later, Rodri headed into the side netting before Erling Haaland couldn’t connect cleanly on Gundogan’s inviting cross.
In the first half hour, United just about made it to the halfway point, but they received the break they required to get back into the game. Grealish’s arm was brushed by Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s header back across the City area, and VAR prompted referee Paul Tierney to review the incident. Tierney pointed to the location despite City’s protests, and Fernandes calmly sent Stefan Ortega the wrong way. The City supporters responded angrily to the Portuguese’s celebrations in front of them.
Seven minutes before halftime, when Kevin De Bruyne was taken down by Fred inside the area, VAR did not intervene and no penalty was given, prompting City manager Pep Guardiola to express his rage at the officials. – De Gea in doubt – At the other end, Raphael Varane missed a golden opportunity for United to take the lead before halftime when he shot high and wide from a corner.
After exerting so much effort to establish itself, United paid the price for another sluggish start in the second half. Gundogan scored once more, this time turning in a De Bruyne free-kick. But additional queries will be raised regarding David De Gea’s suitability to continue serving as United’s starting goalkeeper.
But following the 32-year-old Spanish goalkeeper’s feeble effort to stop it, more will be asked about whether he is still the best choice to be United’s number one goalie. De Bruyne and Haaland both forced great saves from De Gea to keep United in the match, while Gundogan was denied a remarkable hat-trick in an FA Cup final by the offside flag.
Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho flashed attempts just inches off goal as United rallied in a frantic finish. Deep into stoppage time, a scrum in the goalmouth caused the ball to rebound off the City bar. The Red Devils, however, were unable to score in time to prevent Guardiola from winning his 11th major championship as City manager and preserve Alex Ferguson’s special legacy. The only team standing between City and emulating the greatest accomplishment in English club football so far is Inter in Istanbul in a week.

Thiago Silva Demands ‘Strategy’ To Resolve Chelsea Crisis.
After Real Madrid’s Champions League run came to an end, Thiago Silva advised Chelsea to develop a “strategy” to avoid the club’s slump continuing into the following season. Tuesday saw the Spanish team seal a decisive 4-0 aggregate victory in the Champions League quarterfinals, ending the Blues’ last chance to salvage a terrible season.
Brazilian defender Silva acknowledged that the club had a difficult season and claimed that Chelsea’s overcrowded roster assured that there were always disgruntled players. Since being acquired by a group led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital Group last year from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, Chelsea has spent more than £500 million ($620 million) on players.
Following the firings of Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter and one game under interim coach Bruno Saltor, Frank Lampard became their fourth manager this season. Since making a short comeback, Lampard’s team has lost four straight games and scored just once throughout that time. With seven games remaining, Chelsea is now in 11th place in the Premier League standings, 17 points behind the top four, and is unlikely to advance to the European competition. After Real Madrid defeated them 2-0 at home in the second leg of their quarterfinal on Tuesday, Silva said it was necessary to analyze what went wrong rather than assign blame.
If we don’t take responsibility for our actions, it won’t be enough to point the finger at the coach and say “it’s this person’s fault, it’s that person’s fault,” he said. We must stop and develop a plan to prevent making the same errors the following year, he continued. The club had to expand the changing room, according to Silva, 38, because of the team’s sizable roster, which included eight new additions in January alone. “I think it’s a difficult time for the club, with a lack of definition at the beginning, a new owner, many players arriving — they even had to expand the dressing room because there wasn’t enough room for all the players,” he remarked. The team has fantastic players, which is a plus, but a drawback is that someone will be upset because not everyone can play and the coach has to choose 11 players out of the team’s 30-plus members.
