ISHAGA BOYS FC ARE WINNERS OF THE MAIDEN FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT SPONSORED BY HON. BARR. JESSE OKEY-JOE ONUAKALUSI.

The Football Tournament, sponsored by Hon. Barr. Jesse Okey-Joe Onuakalusi, the member representing Oshodi-Isolo 2 Federal Constituency, finally came to a halt after seven days of intense action and football skills at the Ejigbo mini stadium on Sunday 15th December, 2024. It was one week of frills and thrills by the very gifted boys from the 6 wards that make up the constituency. The football artistry that was showcased could be likened to the ones we watch in the English Premiership or in the Spanish La Liga.

Korrect News reporter, Ferdinand Mmadike, who was on ground, reports that spectators and invited guests had gathered at the venue in anticipation of an eventful end to the tournament. The crowd erupted into a mammoth applause when Hon. Barr. Okey- Joe arrived with his entourage. He then went about greeting his constituents and guests in his usual amiable manner.

In his short speech, he reminded the crowd that the football tournament was one of the campaign promises that he made. In his words, “the plan is for the constituency to have a football club that would represent the constituency” He went further to reveal that names of 22 outstanding players will be pencilled down for the constituency football club. And that they “will start training in January 2025”. He also spoke about a Hall of Fame where names of gifted players that will come out of the tournament will be stored for posterity.

The final matches then kicked off after Hon. Okey- Joe did the traditional kickoff ceremony.

The third place match was between two Ejigbo teams; AA fc, Ejigbo and Bafa Boys FC, Ejigbo. After a pulsating match, where the two teams could not be separated, the game was decided on penalties. AA fc, Ejigbo eventually won the third placed mat h by 6 penalty goals to 5 and the three hundred thousand naira prize money and a third placed cup. Bafa Boys FC won the consolation prize of One hundred thousand naira.


After this, the die was now cast. The final match that everyone was waiting for between Palace Boys FC, Ishaga and Ishaga United FC, was next.

It was a match that promised to be a good watch from their earlier performances in their individual semi final games. It started with both teams sizing each other up with half chances. As much as they tried, there was no goal scored by either team. The game then ended goaless and just like the third placed match, both teams had to play penalties to determine the winner.

Then after an exciting first five kicks, Palace Boys FC, Ishaga came out winners by scoring three out of heir five kicks while Ishaga United FC scored only one goal. The hero of the match was the diminutive goalkeeper of Palace Boys FC.

The winner, Palace Boys FC, Ishaga were then awarded the cup and the five hundred thousand naira prize money while the second placed team, Ishaga United FC went home with three hundred thousand naira plus a loser’s cup.

Some of the dignitaries that graced the final included Igwe Obikuenyi L. O. Ezenwa, Igwe Nkata Ukwu Ohazurume of Umuomaku Ancient Kingdom, Orumba South LGA, Anambra state, Chief Ik Agina, chairman Ohaneze Ndigbo, Ejigbo, Mr. Peter Adewale, chairman CDA, Aigbaka ward, morning star zone, Eze Dr. Alex Sunday Nwoye, Eze Ndigbo and Babaselu of Ejigbo land, Hon. Eng. Chuks Odimegwu, Secretary General, Igbo speaking community, Lagos state, Mr. Walter Ukaga, and Ward chairmen.


Highlights were performances by the very entertaining Ejigbo women cultural Dance Troupe and a contortionist.
